Hey Folks,

Every Thursday during the summer we are working on a new trail on the west side of Cunningham.
This trail exists on the map but was never built. It will be a flowy type of freeridish type of trail.
If you head to the west side and take the green trail, you will come to the big party bowl area, this is the section we'll be working on…near the old paved road is the entrance.
We will also have a few Sunday afternoon trail work days coming up in a few weeks cause I know it's tough to get out during the work week.

I ran into Mike Vitti at Fat Tire Fest a couple weeks ago, and I got to talking to him about how we can a park in Brooklyn, or at least something that's not one hour or more away. I like going to Highbridge and Cunningham, but they are easily a hour and half away from me, and taking at least 3 trains. All that traveling is no fun on the weekends when that train service is being slowed down. The reason why I'm writing is to ask for help to scout for areas in Brooklyn that could be a good area to build a Trail/ Jump Park. The city offered a space at Floyd Bennet's Field just past King Plaza, which if you dont know is pretty far out and super flat. I know there's plenty of hidden parks through out Brooklyn that can be a potential area for riding. One of the areas I always think about is Prospect Park, which I think need to be scouted and come up with real suggestions for riding areas. The City is almost willing consider any area that's under developed and needs to be cleaned up. Similarly like why Highbridge was considered, since it was filled with junk, homeless people & junkies. In Prospect, the three areas that come to mind to me is the Flatbush Trails, the area above the monument stair's, and the area in the middle of the park near the Shepherd's Fields. I'm sure something can be built near the horse trails too. Another ark I mentioned to Mike was Lincoln Terrence Park, since I have seen a few times motocycles riders in there illegally, there's plenty of space to build a Jump park at least. That's the thing to even build a jump park it wouldn't take much space, for example, Highbridge Jumps are built in an area of 100×250 feet. And because of the size there's been plenty of inquires from other states & city to Mike about how can be done.
So if you have any suggestions please feel free to post them here or email me at iggy@brooklynbikeriders.com. Also if you can include photos and any info about the area. I believe this can happen, but its not going to happen without help from you guys.

Mountain bike champ had 200 lbs of pot

 WILTON, N.Y. (AP) – Former mountain biking world champion Melissa "Missy" Giove was ordered held on $250,000 bail Thursday after federal authorities said they seized more than 200 pounds of marijuana from a truck she was driving in upstate New York.

Giove, 37, and Eric Canori, 30, of Wilton were charged Tuesday with conspiring to possess and distribute more than 100 kilograms of marijuana.

Nearly 400 pounds of pot were seized from the truck and from Canori's home outside Saratoga Springs, 25 miles north of Albany, according to the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency.

Canori was ordered held on $500,000 bail at the detention hearing Thursday. Giove and Canori were also ordered to surrender their passports, attend all court appearances and notify authorities of any changes in phone number or address should they post bail. Judge David Homer also imposed travel restrictions on both.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Richard Belliss had asked for no bail, saying Giove and Canori are flight risks, but Homer cited the pair's lack of criminal history and family and business ties to their communities.

Authorities learned of Giove and Canori's plans last weekend when Illinois State Police pulled over a woman driving a truck and trailer loaded with about 220 pounds of marijuana, DEA spokeswoman Erin Mulvey said. Authorities completed the delivery to the Albany area, where Mulvey said Giove picked up the vehicle and trailer.

Giove is accused of then driving north and following Canori to his home, where some of the trailer's contents were unloaded.

Giove was later arrested at nearby Saratoga Lake, authorities said. A search of Canori's home turned up more than 150 pounds of pot and more than $1 million in cash stashed in a closet and the basement, the DEA said.

In court Thursday, public defender Tim Austin said the drugs and money were planted in Giove's truck, possibly by police.

Giove, nicknamed "The Missile," was the downhill world champion in 1994 and won World Cup season titles in '97 and '98, then captured national titles from 1999-2001. One of the sport's first mainstream female stars, she retired from downhill racing in 2003.

Here's a couple of group shot at the end of the day, it was cool seeing old faces. I can't believe how big the festival was this year plenty of demo bikes on hand to try. And once a few of our members cleaned up on the raffles, while the rest of us were cleaned out.

first Brooklyn Bike Jumble, New York’s first outdoor bicycle flea
market and celebration of New York City bicycle culture.

The event will be held in the park, on Fifth Avenue between third and
fourth streets, in Park Slope, Brooklyn, a center of bicycle commuting
in New York City .

At this one-day-only
event, private non professional vendors will be on hand to sell
bicycles, bicycle components and clothing to the public. Low cost
bicycles will be available to beginners young and old. In fact,
concurrently with the Jumble, riding lessons will be offered that day
to kids!

There will be an area where enthusiasts can sell and trade bicycle parts.
Attendees looking for kid’s bikes, cruisers, BMX, mountain, racers,
fixed gears or any wheeled pedal powered machine will find it here.

There will also be a classic bike show highlighting beautiful machines with an emphasis on bikes with strong ties to New York .

New York City based cycling oriented companies such as Outlier, selling
their US produced high tech yet classic commuting wear, and Bicycle
Paintings by Taliah Lempert, selling, t-shirts, posters and coloring
books celebrating famously beautiful bicycles, will be there.

Tables for private vendors will be available, pending availability, until the
