Interbike ’08 Photos!
Here are those photos from Interbike you have been waiting for. I might not be the fastest poster in the world, since I am a team of one unlike Pinkbike, MTBr, Sick Lines or "insert Your Favorite MTB Website Here!." I do get to most of these events under my own resources and funding (while working my normal fulltime job). I guess till I have my own dream team as the other sites, I just got to work at my own pace. So here it is, this years Interbike Photo Gallery BBR Style. I focused on the companies that brought new things to table, least updated their current lines or simply caught my attention. I have to admit there was plently of cool things I might have miss, but there's no need to cry over spilled milk.
So here it is, Interbike '08 Photos. You will find photos from Dirt Demo, the Indoor Show and Team Bulldog doing their thing NYC style in Vegas.
Vegas or Bust!

Say Goodbye to Bike Chains; Say Hello to Belt Drives

Bikes with chains may be becoming an endangered species. Belt-driven bikes, which were introduced by boutique bike makers a couple of years ago, are just starting to hit the mainstream. Trek has introduced two new urban bikes for 2009 with belt drives rather than chains, and they look pretty sweet. The benefit to a belt drive system over a chain and shifters system is that it won't stretch and break over time like a chain, weighs significantly less, stays clean (and keeps your cuffs clean) and is quiet. The downside? It's more expensive. The two bikes Trek has unveiled, the District and the Soho, will run you $930 and $990, respectively. But as with all new tech, the prices are always highest right when it starts hitting the mainstream. Look for bikes with belt drives to start coming from many more big bike companies for much less in the coming years.

2008 King of New York™ Results and Photos – Jeremiah Smith scores the Pro King of New York Title!
Check out "http://www.kingofnewyorkbmx.com" for more info.
Brooklyn, NY – August 13, 2008 – After an incredible weekend of riding by all, Jeremiah Smith, 21, left no doubt who would be the 2008 King of New York Pro Champion. It was his to lose as Jeremiah slammed the door on the eighteen other pros competing by qualifying first on Saturday. He kept up the intensity during Sunday’s Final with smooth riding and flow, busting out non-stop with tricks like wall-ride to barspin, double whips, wall-ride to tuck no hander, barspin-to-tailwhip, and no-brake tire tap to foot jam on the big sub. Second place finisher Dzavid Radoncic, 16, out of Brooklyn was hungry too with 720s over the spine, and big tailwhips and turndowns on the concrete quarter. Rounding out the top three was Ronnie Surridge, who raised everyone’s blood pressure with the gnarliest nose dive spine 360s, and quarterpipe 540s. Three-time King of New York and reigning Pro Champion Jorge Jovel finished eighth but still wowed the fans despite a serious elbow infection, throwing down big front flips, and huge wall taps and quarter pipe airs.
The Bronx came out to rep in force in Brooklyn, with Franky Navarro, 18, and David Lawrence, 16, taking their respective wins in the Expert and Beginner classes. Fresh off his gold medal SuperPark X Games win the weekend before, Daniel Dhers even came to hang out and support his peers. Finally, undaunted by the rain falling after the awards ceremonies, bands Face Death, Night Swim, and Big Grin rocked out and played to finish off a great King of New York weekend.
Below are the 2008 official King of New York top ten results. The full list and more photos can be found at www.kingofnewyorkbmx.com. The premier Pro/Am BMX Freestyle Competition in New York City, The King of New York is one of the longest running bicycle stunt competitions in the world and the only one of its kind in New York City. NYCFreeride/Xpparel, New Garb!
(NEW YORK) – Brooklyn, NY has always been a place of radical change; in the past decade there have been a number of small businesses that have pledged their allegiance to begin in Brooklyn and thrive in Brooklyn. One of these companies is NYCFreeride, which, is amongst some of the premier mountain biking component companies claiming refuge in the heart of Brooklyn.
As a progressive company NYCFreeride has been open to exploring new ideas and ways to promote their brand as well as streamline their operations. One of these new ideas is a partnership with a radical new company Xpparel. The premise behind the partnership is the delegation of all NYCFreeride branded apparel to Xpparel. NYCFreeride gets to produce their products and Xpparel manages the apparel lines from start to finish; all the while leaving NYCFreeride to focus on what they do best; making components.
Founder and President of NYCFreeride Andrew Grossi commented on the importance of branded apparel saying, “It’s become clear in the extreme sports industry that apparel sales drive a brand. As much as we love seeing our components as a platform for our brand, there’s no doubt that branded apparel builds brand recognition”.
Xpparel founders Matt Wilson and Rob Ianelli are eager to develop the construction and enhancement of apparel lines for the extreme sports industry. Wilson was quoted saying, “We are looking to build Xpparel.com into a one-stop shop to find clothing from your favorite niche action sports company”. Xpparel provides both a streamlined apparel solution for extreme sports gear manufacturers as well as provide a distinct website for niche extreme sports enthusiasts to purchase apparel they identify with and want to represent.
As of now NYCFreeride apparel can be found on their website www.nycfreeride.com as well as Xpparel.com . Customers can choose from current styles of shirts and accessories. For more information on Xpparel email direct rob@hipvisions.com

One More Reason to Hate the Cops

The question is did the biker run into the cop or the cop shove the biker to the ground?
You be the judge.
