For Immediate Release- May 29, 2007 (Vernon, NJ)- America’s premier downhill event, the U.S. Open of Mountain Biking, took place this past weekend at Diablo Freeride Park under sunny skies, a full pit of teams and a nearly sold-out race roster. Top racers from seven different countries and 35 different U.S. states competed at Diablo Freeride Park to take part in America’s richest and most prestigious downhill event.

The U.S. Open pro categories were fiercely contested with racers competing for a healthy $20,000 cash purse and the coveted U.S. Open title. Bryn Atkinson, Australian standout riding for GT Bicycle’s, was consistently spotted throughout the weekend throwing down smooth, mind blowing runs on the technical U.S. Open course. When it mattered most, Atkinson bested his third place qualifying position and claimed the 2007 U.S. Open Men’s Title. Posting a time one-minute and fifteen seconds ahead of second-place Cove Factory rider Steve Smith, Atkinson clearly felt at home on the technical terrain of Diablo Freeride Park.

Sabrina Jonnier (Monster Energy / Iron Horse) dominated the women’s pro category claiming her second U.S. Open title in three years. Fionn Griffiths (Norco / Griffiths Racing) and Kathy Pruitt (Jamis Bikes) rounded out the top-three placing second and third respectively.
