From Hcor Some of you may have heard about a rider who was injured at Plattekill's final race last season and had to be carted off in a helicopter. News of his condition since then has been rather thin until now, and it ain't good. Sergio's spine was broken and is now a complete quadriplegic. He is in serious need of monetary help to help pay for the equipment and care he'll need for the rest of his life.
Please help Sergio out any way you can Sergios Fund

This is horrible news about Sergio's condition. There was an idea on HCOR to set up an auction of bike parts. People could donate parts to be sold, then give the proceeds to Sergio. I want to contribute whatever I can in parts or $. Glad to see his family is here for him also.

Money sent. I can't even imagine being in that situation, I think every rider should know about an incident like this, and feel for this guy. Good luck to him, and hopefully the fundraiser goes real well.

wow this is extremely bad, was he wearing spine protector? Wouldnt have helped - he compresse cervical vertebrae - something like what Chris Reeve did; I believe C4-C5 -- I broke and herniated/crushed some neck verts like that, Thank god I got out of it 99%, just muscle damage, no nerve. a Neck roll MIGHT have helped, but as I understand it, he suffered a direct compression as a result of 'pile driving' head 1st into a tree. I def saw him ridin his ass off in the past. Life is unpredictable, but dont let it scare you - I also have a childhood friend that is Quadraplegic after the van he was in (parked) was bumped by another car pulling otu and he fell and broke his neck (healthy, 'robust' kid.. freak accident) - so YES we do dangerous stuff, but this is more about a remote chance that unfortunately got Sergio!

copy/paste Thanks from the Family of Sergio.. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hi All. I am Erika Sergio's cousin. He is doing well and you can find out more here www.sergiosfund.org. He suffered a C3-5 pinch meaning his spine was affected but not broken, but he is a complete quad, we pray everyday for a miracle. In the mean time I set up this fund with his brother and mom to help them financially. We need a wheelchair and supplies etc... He is currently living in a nursing home in Queens, LI, NY and visitors are always welcome!! He will be at my home in Bellmore Li July 1st for a BBQ if any of you wish to stop by and say hi, shoot the breeze etc.. He would love that. His out look is good and I had plastered his Hospital room with images of riders to keep his spirits up. I can not say enough – THANK YOU TO ALL WHO EXPRESSED CONCERN, YOUR PRAYERS ETC FOR SERGIO. We – the family – can not say how much it means to us all. His mom’s English is not the greatest so I took this on to help and to get the word out. If anyone wants to put together fund raising please call me. I’d love to help with the logo, the web site etc… Be safe. Be well And thanks Erika 516 659 5828 www.sergiosfund.orglet's make a visit group to cheer him up in person...
